Question: Do
I need to take any medical precautions?
Answer: It
may be required that you have a vaccination before traveling to a
certain country. We will let you know whether this applies to
you when we book your trip.
You should be aware that Malaria is present in many parts of
Africa. If you will be visiting an area affected by Malaria,
we will advise you of this fact. It is a good idea to consult
your doctor to prescribe a prophylactics and be advised of health
precautions before traveling to Africa. Usually, you will need to start
taking this medication one week before traveling to these areas.
Question: If I need to renew a medical prescription, may I do this
while I’m away from home in Africa?
Answer: An African pharmacy may not be able to provide your
prescription medication. You should make sure you have enough
of your medication to last the duration of your trip. You
will want to makes copies of your prescriptions to bring along with
you. You may be asked to produce the copies of your
prescriptions at the port of entry to countries visited.
Question:
Will I need travel insurance?
Answer: It
is a good idea to purchase trip cancellation and curtailment insurance
when you book your reservation. You may need to obtain insurance in
case of a medical emergency during a Safari. Your insurance
broker and/or travel agent will be able to advise you on this topic.
Question:
While on Safari, am I in danger of being attacked by wild animals?
Answer:
Typically, you will view the animals while on safari in an open 4x4
vehicle. You will view herds of elephant, buffalo, lion,
rhino, leopard along with many other animals. Theses wild animals are
used to the vehicle and will normally ignore the vehicle. You will be
traveling with an experienced and armed ranger who will have your
safety as his/her highest concern. Of course, you should remain in the
vehicle at all times. You should not stand up in the vehicle.
When on a foot safari, encounters with carnivores or more dangerous
species can occur. Definitely do not turn and run. Your ranger is armed
and will use force if necessary to protect you.
